Brass medal Přemyslids of Opava standard | Czech Mint

The Mint says about this coin:

Brass medal Přemyslids of Opava standard Přemek I of Opava – Premko of Troppau – was the youngest son of Nicolas II and his third wife Jitka, the grandson of Nicolas I, out of wedlock born son of the Czech king Ottokar II Přemysl and Agnes of Kuenring, called “Palceřík“. Přemek, who was probably born after the death of his 77 years old father, had three older brothers – John I, Nicolas III and Wenceslas II. The oldest, John I, was the guardian of his younger brothers Wenceslas and Přemek. When they were proclaimed “mature“ in 1377, they became co-rulers of one half of the duchy of Troppau. John I ruled over the first quarter including Krnov and Ratibořsko regions, while the second quarter – the Hlubčice region – was held by Nicolas III. After the death of Wenceslas II in 1381 Přemek became the sole ruler of one half of Troppau, to which he added the Hlubčice region after the death of Nicolas III. Přemek of Troppau is a significant historical figure of the turn of 14th and 15th centuries. As a brother in law of the Moravian margrave John Henry – younger brother of emperor Charles IV – and uncle of his three sons Jobst, Prokopius and John Sobieslav – he ranked among the top prominents of the Luxembourg period. As such he was a direct witness of the family quarels and fights among the last Luxembourgs, and the subsequent religious conflict between the Catholics and the Hussites. The effigy of Premko of Troppau clad in dress of the period dominates the obverse side of the medal. It also features coat-of-arms of dukes of Troppau with four fields – two with stripes and two with a female eagle. Text “Přemek I. Kníže Opavský“ is written around the rim in partial circumscription. The reverse side of the medal features a fragment of the equestrian seal of Premko of Troppau from 1433. The motif is complemented with Premko of Troppau dates of birth and death 1365–1433.Limited edition 500 pieces. More Less
