Gold ducat Czechoslovak Presidents - Emil Hácha proof | Czech Mint

The Mint says about this coin:

Product description Series Czechoslovak presidents enjoyed another welcome increase. The latest medal made of pure gold is dedicated to a contradictory personality from the national history of the 20th century - President Emil Hácha. For some he represents a traitor, in the eyes of others he seems to be a victim, while others see the hero in him. Whatever is your opinion on the third president of Czechoslovakia, he forms essential part of Czech history and he clearly deserves his own mintage by the Czech Mint. Emil Hácha graduate of the Law Faculty of Charles University in this field he subsequently held many important posts. After the abdication of the President Edvard Beneš on 30th November 1939, then took over as leader of the state. On 14th March 1939 Hácha participated in meetings with the leaders of the German Reich in Berlin and during the night of brutal coercion and intimidation accepted the proposal of the establishment of the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia and entrusted his country "to the protection of the Reich". Disappointed by the attitude of the Nazis, who did not respect the agreement, the president protested against Germanization. In autumn 1939 he courageously refused to say pledge of allegiance to Adolf Hitler and to the Reich Protector Konstantin von Neurath. He also demanded the release of detained Czech patriots, including university students. The arrival of Reinhard Heydrich in Prague meant great pressure for the government from the Nazis, the assassination of the Reich Protector in June 1942, became fatal for Hácha. Mentally and physically he did not overcome his personal situation neither the situation of the Czech nation. Thereafter he was a mere puppet used by the Nazis to promote "protectorate patriotism within the German Reich." Hácha lost not only confidence of national resistance and of the government in exile, but gradually also of occupiers. President Hácha, in bad health, was arrested on 13th May 1945, and a month later died in prison hospital. Masterly realised creative initiative by academic sculptor Jiří Dostál represents a gloomy fate of the Czechoslovak politics on golden ducat in extraordinary proof quality. It is alreadythe third jewel of the series Czechoslovak presidents. Its obverse side is decorated with exclusive relief portrayal of the President, along with inscriptions EMIL HÁCHA,1872, 1945 PERIOD OF POST-MUNICH LACK OF FREEDOM. The reverse side of the coin represents stylish collage with State symbols and maps showing pre-war and post-war territorial changes of our country. The texts represents both of Hácha`s highest posts and the date when he took office. Golden ducat Emil Hácha is a wonderful opportunity not only for collectors of artistically processed metals, but also for experts on national history and its admirers . The issue is complemented by original packaging full of historical contexts and is limited to just 500 pieces, so do not hesitate to buy it! More Less
