5000-crown gold coin Renaissance bridge in Stříbro proof | Czech Mint

The Mint says about this coin:

5000-crown gold coin Renaissance bridge in Stříbro proof In 2011, the Czech National Bank began to issue a new series of gold commemorative coins with a nominal value of CZK 5,000 with motifs of bridges built in the Czech Republic. The first coin was dedicated to the Gothic bridge in Písek, while the second depicts the Renaissance bridge in the town of Stříbro. As in the case of the first coin, the design for the second one was chosen in a country-wide anonymous competition. The author of the winning design – sculptor Zbyněk Fojtů – won thanks to well-balanced composition of both sides, flawless representation of the bridge and original use of typical sgrafiti and the sign from the bridge gate. All coins in the series “Bridges of the Czech Republic” are made of 999.9 gold, each of them weighs 15.55 g and measures 28 mm in diameter. The coins are minted either in standard quality where the entire coin surface is uniformly polished, or in proof quality, i.e. with highly polished mint field and matted relief. The rich town of Stříbro was well known for silver and lead mining, its solid fortifications reflected the town’s wealth and strategic importance. The fortified walls came out to a two-arched stone Renaissance bridge, and further on below the bridge gate-tower to a three-arched flood bridge. The bridges are not aligned and there is a draining trough in the sill wall of the two-arched bridge. The clearance of both arches spanning the Mže river differs, the bridge is almost 6 m wide, however the length of both bridges totals 60 m. The gate itself stands at 5.15 m wide river-bed pier, the tower has a square floor plan with an annex for spiral staircase, oblong windows and a stone relief with an inscription of the period in Czech. The tower, topped with original hexagonal pyramid-shaped roof covered with mission tiling, features remains of Renaissance sgrafitti. A statue of St. John of Nepomuk – patron of bridges – guards the bridge. The tower is accessible through a corbelled out side staircase. The bridge was built between 1555–1560 and up to 2000 it also served car traffic. The obverse side of the coin features a detail of the sgrafitti decoration with a relief of the municipal coat-of-arms (with a rare depiction of the Czech lion – shown here from the other side than usually). The legend in a rectangle placed above the coat-of-arms reads: ČESKÁ REPUBLIKA, MOSTY, 5000 Kč. Above the inscription we can see heraldic animals – the Czech lion, Moravian and Silesian female eagles, while the mint mark is placed below the municipal coat-of-arms. The reverse side shows the bridge slightly from below to emphasize the magnitude of both main arches and the extraordinary bridge tower (with the exception of the Charles bridge it is the sole bridge with such tower in the Czech Republic). The legend in the circumscription reads: RENESANČNÍ MOST VE STŘÍBŘE, next to the author’s mark and the year of mintage – 2011.A red catalogue card is delivered with each coin, featuring description of the coin and its three-dimensional depiction.
