Gold 5000CZK coin Steel-concrete bridge in Karviná - Darkov proof | Czech Mint
The Mint says about this coin:
Product description Many bridges which deserve admiration for their superb architecture are situated in the Czech Republic. To them the Czech National Bank dedicated a series of ten gold coins denominated 5,000 Czech crowns. Every year, collectors can add to their collections two magnificent pieces depicting bridge structures and, at the same time, make a wise investment. The steel-concrete arched road bridge is a technical pride of Karviná-Darkov spa. It was built in 1925 to span the Olše River and designed by MSc Rabe, a prominent Vienna architect. The bridge is 56.5m long, 9.5m wide and the arch is 12.2m high. In 2003-2004 the bridge was completely reconstructed, because in 1997 it was almost damaged by a one-hundred-year flood. It now serves only to pedestrians and bikers. The design of the coin was chosen in a nation-wide contest. The winner Asamat Baltaev, an exceptionally talented student of Higher Vocational School in Jablonec nad Nisou, persuaded the jury with a well-balanced true depiction of the bridge. The obverse side portrays the bridge girders, name of the bridge and the year of issue 2014. The reverse shows the front-view of the bridge, name of the series Czech Republic Bridges and the denomination of the coin CZK 5,000. Another splendid piece for collectors from the Czech National Bank also means a safe and smart investment!
