Product description Together with the anthem, heraldic animals and the national tree, the flag is one of the best known symbols of the Czech statehood. Czech Mint prepared an exclusive issue of four gold medals dedicated to thesesymbols. They can either be bought separately, or in a luxurious set. The journey to the current Czech flag was long and complicated. Its present form is derived from the original red and white royal flag from the 12th century: the red strip was above the white one. In 1848, in protest against Germanisation, Czechs began to raise the flag the wrong way up, i. e. with the white strip up. This bicolour flag was provisionally used as the state flag after the foundation of the Czechoslovak Republic. On 30 March 1920 a new flag was approved by deputies of the National Assembly: two equal horizontal bands of white (top) and red with a blue triangle based on the hoist side. The national flag was designed by Jaroslav Kursa. On the obverse of the gold medal with the motif of the Czech state flag the author of the design, academic sculptor Michal Vitanovský placed another strong national symbol – the statue of Saint Wenceslas by Myslbek. On the reverse he placed an impressive collage of the coats of arms of the three Czech lands. Five-ducat CR 2015 State flag in proof quality will embellish every numismatic collection.
