Gold half ounce medal J. Cimrman Theatre - Marlén Jelinková proof | Czech Mint
The Mint says about this coin:
Product description Czech giant Jára Cimrman (in fact a fictional character created by Jiří Šebánek, Ladislav Smoljak and Zdeněk Svěrák) is believed to have been born between 1853 and 1859 in Vienna. His life-long legacy encompasses a variety of scientific and artistic fields: he was involved in theatre, literature and music and he was also a remarkable inventor. He inspired many important figures worldwide; he lugged on his back forty-five buckets or pitchblende to Marie and Pierre Currie’s basement, he praised Chekhov for his book of short stories and fertilized his cherry orchard, and he also found a rental apartment for Eiffel. His inheritance was discovered on 23 February 1966, at 10:05 a.m. Since 1967, the Jára Cimrman Theatre has devoted its performances to disseminating the ideas of this genius. To mark the 45th anniversary of the theatre and commemorate its first venue, Malostranská beseda in Prague, the Czech Mint has designed a set of medals in gold, silver and patinated brass. The design was executed in cooperation with the theatre actors. Part of the profits from the sale of medals will be donated to the establishment of the Four Muses House - a pensioners’ home for actors built in Prague under the auspices of the Charter 77 Foundation.
