Gold half-ounce medal Josef Božek proof | Czech Mint
The Mint says about this coin:
Product description When we get in our cars, few of us are probably thinking about how long and revolutionary the way to construction of the first car have been. It is almost unbelievable that 200 years have passed since Josef Božek presented the steam-powered car to the Czechs in the Royal Game Preserve. The half a troy ounce investment gold medal reminds us of that extraordinary event. Fundamental discoveries in the field of physics in the late 18th century moved the use of steam to the very constructive direction. Firstly, in 1769, its power was used to drive a trike, and steam got the attention it deserved. It did not escape James Watt`s attention, who in 1785 presented the first steam engine, which was brought to Bohemia after the Napoleonic wars. There it was entrusted to the Czech mechanic and design engineer Josef Božek. Josef Božek graduated from the Estate Polytechnic Institute and distinguished himself during his studies by a number of exceptional achievements. The crucial date in the annals of his discoveries is undoubtedly the year 1815, when constructed his own steam car. It looked like handlebar-controlled wooden carriage powered by the steam transferred to the wheels from the boiler under the car. In the same year, with the financial support of the patriotic nobility, he publicly presented his machine in Prague - it was the second ride of the steam engine in history! But Josef Božek did not rest on his laurels, and two years later he constructed a steam boat. When he first presented it to the public in the presence of provincial nobility, someone stole his cash register with all the money. It was a deathblow for Joseph Božek, because due to his design engineering passion he was greatly indebted. The event annoyed him so much that he destroyed his machines on the same day and he renounced the steam for the rest of his life. However, his legacy survived and came to life at the hands of many followers. The obverse side of the medal designed by MA. Martin Dašek features precisely realized portrait of the phenomenal designer, his name and the anniversary years 1815-2015. The motive of the steam car passing Royal Game Preserve, along with the inscription PRESENTATION OF THE STEAM CAR decorates the reverse side.
