To celebrate the 90th birthday of Karel Fiala, the Czech Mint has prepared an exceptional issue of gold commemorative medals. Karel Fiala, born on August 3rd, 1925 in Ostrava, may have become famous for his irresistable character from the silver screen, but his primary love and destiny was singing. He studied singing at the State Conservatory in Prague and after a two-year stint with the National Theater found a permanent home in the Karlín Musical Theater. There he captivated audiences in numerous outstanding productions. During his lifetime he has managed to marry three times and is the proud father of four sons. With this new minting, the Czech Mint is not only commemorating the work of Fiala, but also celebrates the truly exceptional cinematic work of Oldřich Lipský. On the obverse of the medal is a contemporary portrait of Karel Fiala, along with his name and anniversary. The reverse is dominated by a likeness of the actor as Lemonade Joe, with the name of the film and the year it was released.
