Gold half-ounce medal General Land Centennial Exhibition in Prague proof | Czech Mint
The Mint says about this coin:
Product description Although the German-speaking monarchy tried to convince us of the opposite, the Czech lands of the 19th century were economically, culturally and politically on a high level. The General Land Centennial Exhibition in 1891 gave to the nation a unique opportunity to show the Czech skills and abilities to the world. On the occasion of the 125th anniversary of this triumph of our nation is released a half-ounce gold commemorative medal, which is an addition to the cycle of most beautiful unrealized proposals from competitions of the Czech National Bank. The exhibition was a showcase of various branches of the Czech industry, agriculture and social life. It was in the sign of modern technologies - the visitors were captivated by first electric railway in the Czech lands, hot air balloon and the breathtaking Křižík's Fountain. These wonders could not miss even the Emperor Franz Joseph I.! On 300 thousand square meters of the Royal Park was built 150 buildings - one of them was the Palace of Industry, which became the first prefabricated steel construction combined with glass in the Czech Republic and that is the main motif on the obverse side of the medal. The reverse side offers a view of a layout plan of the exhibition from above, into which is squeezed the Petřín Observation Tower - another of the architectural wonders, that were created during the spectacular show. The proposal came from the workshop of an academic sculptor Zbyněk Fojtů and in the competition of the Czech National Bank took second place. The Commission for the assessment of proposals for Czech money, was mostly impressed by the unconventional negative processing of the lookout tower featured on the reverse side of the medal, bordered by a polished proof field. The gold medal comes in just 99 numbered pieces - it includes a certificate with an illustration of the Palace of Indusrty, which contains a text, reminding the importance of the General Land Centennial Exhibition and its impact on the confidence of the Czech nation.
