Gold medal St. Agnes of Bohemia 50-crown banknote motif proof | Czech Mint
The Mint says about this coin:
Product description In his life, Oldřich Kulhánek became famous at home and also in the world as the author of the original graphics, images and illustrations. Among the collectors, however, he is mostly recognized as the "father" of the amazing postage stamps and the Czech banknotes. In the years 1992 and 1993 he brought to life eight banknotes, some of which can now be found only in the collections of the notaphilists. The glamor of their visual processing has newly inspired the Czech Mint, which immortalized one of Kulhánek’s artworks in the form of a stunning gold medal, with the theme taken from the last fifty crown banknote with St. Agnes of Bohemia. Since the division of the Czech and Slovak Republics in 1993 it is the third paper banknote, which was withdrawn from the circulation. After ten and twenty-crown banknotes, came the turn of the fifty crowns banknote with a motif of St. Agnes. By the way, on the no longer valid twenty crown banknote was pictured her father, King Premysl Otakar I. Since 1919 our country has always had a banknote of a nominal value of fifty crowns. The one with St. Agnes of Bohemia was the thirteenth and the last. Even today it is considered the most pious banknote in our history. The depiction of the patron of the Czech lands presented by Oldřich Kulhánek is so emotional, that many consider it, without any exaggeration, as a holy picture. A fine and sensitive artistic approach of the saint patron undertook the daughter of Oldřich Kulhánek herself, MgA. Klára Melichová, as well as an impressive composition of the surface of the reverse, dominated by the letter A, decorated with a variety of symbols. The designs of both sides for this issue has prepared the academic sculptor Vladimír Oppl. Thus a unique piece was created, which will become another adornment of an exceptionally successful series of the Czech Mint, titled the Motives of the Banknotes by Oldřich Kulhánek. This not only diversifies your numismatic collections, but also safely and elegantly saves your financial reserves. Treat yourself to a magnificent gold medal!
