Exceptionally beautiful and unique seal An outstanding replica of the seal of Jost of Luxembourg (1351–1411), Margrave of Moravia and Brandenburg, elected King of the Romans. Jost was the eldest son of Margrave of Moravia John Henry (younger brother of Emperor Charles IV). After his father’s death in 1375 he took over the rule of Moravia, while his younger brother Procopius inherited part of the territory. Jost had a reputation of being shrewd and greedy, but also the most learned prince of the period who was successful in expanding his territory. He was the last independent Margrave of Moravia from the House of Luxembourg. The obverse side features the motif from round one-sided seal used by Jost of Luxembourg to seal margrave deeds. The seal field depicts a Moravian female eagle facing right and text in circumscription: * iodoci * dei * gracia * ma_rchionis * et * domini * moravie * circumscribed by two dividing lines. The reverse side of the medal contains a seal field with lilies in the background and an armour-clad horse rider. The equestrian holds in his right hand an unsheathed sword that is fastened to his body by a chain and the reins in his left hand in which he also holds a shield with uncrowned Moravian female eagle. Above the rider’s helmet we can see a jewel in the shape of a folded eagle wing. The rim of the seal field is decorated with liliaceous shoots heading inside the field.
