Statutory towns The Czech Mint gradually introduces silver medals of our statutory cities. Pardubice immortalized in one half of a kilogram of pure silver became the fourteenth important seat of the Czech Republic. Pardubice with ninety thousand inhabitants is the tenth largest seat of the Czech Republic. The town, situated at the confluence of the Labe and Chrudimka rivers in the Elbe basin, is inherently connected with the tradition of gingerbread production, famous horse races and the first Czech aviator Jan Kašpar. Pardubice has a beautiful historical centre which was built by the Lords of Pernštejn. It is dominated by a European unique - a defensive water castle, which was rebuilt into a large and comfortable Renaissance chateau that is guarded by the Green Gate. The only preserved part of the historic fortification from 16th century consists of a one-storey entrance gate, behind which stands an early Renaissance tower. The building, which was named after copper roofing sheet, which turned green by oxidation and weather, reaches a height of 59 meters and offers a wonderful view of the urban conservation area and its surroundings. The image of the Green Gate on the obverse side of the medal was made by the medal maker Irena Hradecká, DiS. The detailed view of the city centre from a bird's eye view was made by the designer Ladislav Vraný. The reverse side of the medal presents a map showing all the statutory cities of the Czech Republic. Just 48 pieces of half-kilogram medals will be issued. Each of them is hand-numbered on the edge and stored in a luxurious wooden etui. More Less
