Silver medal Winter Olympic Games Sochi 2014 proof | Czech Mint The Mint says about this coin: Product description The 22nd Winter Olympic Games were held in the Russian city of Sochi on the Black Sea shore at the Caucasus foothills between 7 and 23 February 2014. They were the second Olympic Games held in Russia and the first Winter Olympic Games held in the country. The venue was divided into two parts - the sports grounds were situated in Sochi and in the mountain sport centre Krasnaya Polyana. After the Winter Olympic Games the Winter Paralympic Games 2014 are scheduled for the same venue. The central motif of the silver commemorative medal issued by the Czech Mint is the Fisht Olympic stadium in Sochi shown on the obverse side of the medal (in Russian Олимпийский стадион «Фишт» – "Fisht" Olympic Stadium). This stadium was the venue of the opening and the closing ceremonies of the Olympic Games and the Prize Giving Ceremony of the Olympic medal award. The total capacity of the stadium is 40,000 spectators and the venue is further scheduled for the Football World Championship in 2018. The author of the commemorative medals is Petr Horák, a teacher from Jablonec, teaching new generations of medal makers at the local Higher Education Institute. Thanks to his affection for sports he has become the main supplier of designs for gold and silver commemorative coins and medals issued by the Czech Mint. The Czech Mint, the traditional producer of commemorative and circulating coins, has been engaged in long-term cooperation with the Czech Olympic Committee. The commemorative medals for the winter Olympic Games in Sochi were also designed in cooperation with the Czech Olympic Committee and their concept follows the commemorative medals issued on the occasion of 30th Summer Olympic Games in London. The reverse side shows a stylised Czech flag and the inscription Czech Olympic Committee 2014. Keep a memento of this significant world event of 2014 in your collection in the form of a commemorative medal of genuine silver. The medal will be issued in a limited edition of 1,000 pieces.
