Silver medal Sigmund Freud proof | Czech Mint
The Mint says about this coin:
Silver medal Sigmund Freud proof Jane McAdam Freud, Sigmund Freud’s granddaughter, is the author of the commemorative medal marking the 70th anniversary of death of the famous Austrian physician, psychiatrist and founder of psychoanalysis. The obverse side of the medal depicts the head of Sigmund Freud with a narrowed eye – a symbol of his research. Freud intensively studied our (human) animal instincts and, among other things, he found that in the animal world a cat’s narrowed eyes represent something similar to a kiss. “My initials, J. McA. F., are placed on Freud’s ear because the shape of ear is inherited from generation to generation, and this is a reminder of my kinship to Sigmund Freud - my grandfather,“ says the author of the design. The motif of a crumpled tin on the reverse side is iconic in the same way as theFreud’s picture. It symbolizes a vessel - once self-contained and full, and now empty and “impoverished”. The author adds: “I am using this motif as a metaphor for certain psychodynamic states on which Freud concentrated in his work concerned with mind therapy.“Limited edition of 1,000 pieces.
