Silver medal Czech Seals - Ekko, Commander of the Knights Templar for Bohemia stand | Czech Mint
The Mint says about this coin:
Czech Seals The fifth issue of the cycle Czech Seal opens a chapter commemorating the representatives of the Catholic Church, which was in power in the Middle Ages. Silver medal embellished with patina was dedicated to Ekko, Commander of the Templar Order. Brother Ekko gained experience in struggle against Saracens on the Malaysian coast. Later, they were forced to leave the Holy Land. He proved as a diplomat and administrator of the Order's property by becoming a Templar Commander for Bohemia, Moravia and parts of Silesia and Austria. Although the Central European province was a periphery for the Templars compared to the Western European countries, Ekko became an important man who was in the court of the Czech kings and the Dukes of Vienna and gained extensive territorial possessions for the Order. However, successful expansion became fatal to the Templars. The seal of Commander Ekko dates back to 1295. At that time, the Templars had been on our territory for more than half a century and had no idea that their influence makes European monarchs to take care of the fall of the whole order. The seal expresses both the chivalrous virtues and the later development of the Order towards wealth and power. Reverse side of the medal presents kneeling Ekko with a sword. "Ordinariness reflected by the simplicity of weapons and clothing was compulsory among the members of the order," academic sculptor Michal Vitanovský explains. On the right side of the reverse side there is a portrayal of the order seal which presents two riders on a horse - again a symbol of simplicity. In addition to the logo, the composition of the reverse side is supplemented by the dates of the Commander's personal seal, whose artistic reconstruction occurs on the obverse side of the medal. “In its center there is a simple Gothic shield with a mysterious sign that defies a clear heraldic interpretation. The coat of arms is surrounded by decorative leafworks - perhaps reflecting the hidden need for luxury, ” the author of the medal adds. A special packaging containing drawings and accompanying words of Michal Vitanovský builds an integral part of the issue.
