Silver medal Apostle James standard | Czech Mint
The Mint says about this coin:
medal with the motif of the disciple of Jesus Saint James ? son of Zebedee and Salome ? was the brother of John the Apostle. Together with Peter and John he was one of the twelve disciples of Jesus. He went abroad to profess gospel outside Palestine and he got as far as Spain. One night, Virgin Mary appeared in front of him and urged him to build a chapel in that place, which he did. Then he returned to Palestine where he was beheaded by Herod’s sword. James is believed to be the first apostle martyred for his faith. According to a legend, his body was sent to the see in a boat which landed on the Spanish coast where it was found and buried by his disciples. An even later tradition states that James the Apostle miraculously appeared to fight for the Christian army during battles for Christianity against Moors. His relics were later taken to Santiago de Compostela in Galicia, Spain, which became the most famous pilgrimage site in the Christian world. Saint James was a pilgrim and therefore he is often depicted with a pilgrim’s stick, the "cockle shell", a hat and a carry-all.
