Probably the oldest known astronomical clock with water-powered mechanism created by inventor and astronomer Al-Džazárí was described in his piece "The Book of Knowledge of ingenious mechanical devices" from the year 1206. The Astronomical Clock is called the astronomical extension of clock- the mechanism demonstrates the movement of celestial bodies and motion tweening allegorical figures. We cannot presently determine precisely how many astronomical clocks were constructed up to the present, however, the Prague clock, is one of the oldest in the world - the first mention of it dates back from 1410. Preserved and still functioning clocks also originate primarily in Italy, France, UK and Germany. Then amongst the youngest belongs the only Slovak clock in Stara Bystrica from 2009. In Tokyo, Japan and Seoul, Korea stands a replica of the Old Town Astronomical Clock. Prague Old Town Astronomical Clock is not only a valued technical landmark, but its appearance is also a unique art exhibition. This sterling silver medal from the popular series by the Czech Mint are inspired by the astrological zodiac and were designed by a distinguished Czech painter of the 19th century - Josef Manes. He accorded December the motive of the felling of oak and collecting bark for the winter, which in a circular pattern decorates the reverse of the medal. A second smaller circular field belongs to the allegory ‘Sagittarius’ also by Josef Manes. The reverse of the medal is common throughout the series and it is a true likeness of the painter standing with palette and paint brushes in front of a detailed portrayal of the astrologicalzodiac. The art canvas is completed by inscriptions ‘Josef Manes and Old Town Astronomical Clock’. The author of both sides is the sculptor Daniela Kartáková, which at even first glance has created an exceptional item, which will be appreciated by all, not only the native Sagittarius.
