Silver medal Czechoslovak Presidents - Antonín Novotný proof | Czech Mint The Mint says about this coin: Product description The sixth silver medal from the cycle of Czechoslovak presidents of the Czech Mint is devoted to the controversial figure of Antonín Novotný, the third of the communist leaders of our state. Despite Gottwald’s mistrust and disputes with Zápotocký, Antonín Novotný was enjoying exceptional favor with Moscow, in particular Nikita Sergejevič Chruščev, who became friends with the Czechoslovakian politician. This is also why Novotný won the presidency and kept it for a decade, longer than his two predecessors together. Sometimes he was nicknamed "the part-time president" - he considered his presidential post to be secondary. His primary post as the First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party he considered much more important and prestigious. But despite all his power and connections, he was eventually criticized and ditched by his fellow politicians. "Contrary to official portraits, where always looking a young and well presented president, the medal features a portrait of the final period of his term, where he bears traces of aging," says the author of the artistic design of this mintage an academic sculptor Jiří Dostál. The presidential bust on the obverse is complemented by the name ANTONÍN NOVOTNÝ, biographical dates 1904 and 1975, and the text ZAVEDENA SOCIALISTICKÁ ÚSTAVA / The Introduction of the Socialistic Constitution /. The transformation of the state in the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic also reflects the reverse side of the medal, which besides the territory surrounded by an impenetrable wall, bears a new national emblem with the Hussite javelin, five-pointed star and Slovak bonfire with glowing flames of revolution. The text around the perimiter of the coin consists of the words PREZIDENT ČESKOSLOVENSKÉ SOCIALISTICKÉ REPUBLIKY / The President of the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic / and dates marking Novotnýs term in office from 1957 to 1968. A complete collection of all nine Czechoslovak presidents, loved ones and the damned, can be stored in a practical collector's box, which can be find in the menu of the Czech Mint. More Less | ||||||
