Silver medal Old-Town Astronomical Clock - Aries proof | Czech Mint The Mint says about this coin: Product description A series of silver commemorative medals Old Town Astronomical Clock by Josef Mánes welcomes further increment. Its motive is the month of March and the astrological sign of Aries. A poor miller journeyman Francis of Prague certainly did not think, that thanks to his descendants, the name Mánes would become a synonymous of the Czech painting. His two sons became a renowned artists. Václav devoted himself to figural, mainly religious painting and became an interim director of the Prague Academy. His brother Antonín laid the foundations of Czech realistic landscape painting and he passed on his love for nature observation to his three talented children, who fell for romanticism. The oldest Amalie focused on the romantic landscapes and unreservedly supported the careers of her brothers. The specialty of youngest Quido became the popular genre scenes. And the middle one, the multitalented Josef? His colorful arrangements with impressive handwriting pushed Czech art on a par with the rest of Europe! The unfortunate private lives of the Mánes siblings have not blessed them with children, who would continue in their footsteps. Luckily their legacy continues with a series of admirers, among them the academic sculpturesess Daniela Kartáková, who transforms the most famous work of Josef Mánes - the Astronomical Clock calendar plate - into a relief form. She has dedicated the obverse side of the medal to circular fields. The larger field consists of an allegory of the month of March - a young farmer plowing with his harnessed oxen. The smaller circle then belongs to the appropriate sign of the zodiac - a ram, which is accompanied by a decorative baroque angel, the so-called Putti. The reverse side of the mintage is decorated with the figure of Josef Mánes himself - he stands before his crowning work with a painting palette in hand. Assemble your entire calendar panel in an unusual form of silver! An intriguing collectible album will help you! You can find it in the menu of the Czech Mint. More Less | ||||||
