Product description May, the time of love! Not only did Karel Hynek Macha portray May as the month of lovers it was also done by Josef Manes on the calendar plate of the Prague Astronomical Clock. This became a pattern of silver medals from the Czech Mint. The final issue from this cycle belongs, in addition to May, to the zodiac sign of Gemini. Josef Manes himself had no luck in love. He was shy and he could not find a wife. This changed, however, when the servant Frantiska Šťovíčkova came to the house of Mánes. A beautiful rural girl with long hair and a narrow waist enchanted the painter not only from an artistic point of view. In the famous painting called Evening, he immortalized her naked, and after three years of being in a secret relationship they had a child. However, he did not fulfill his promise to take care of both of them. His sister Amalia, who ruled the family with an iron hand, was afraid of shame, and she banished Frantiska and her child. Joseph could not fight for his love and fell into depression. He began to behave strangely, but despite the worsening mental illness he was able to create a monumental allegory of twelve months for the Prague Astronomical Clock. However, he failed to take part in its revelation and soon died. The funeral was also attended by a twenty-year-old blond girl named Josefina - the artist's daughter. The academic sculptor Daniela Kartáková is the author of the twelve-part silver medal cycle. The obverse side of the mintage is devoted to two circular fields. The larger circle contains the allegory of May - a meeting of two lovers at a blossoming bush under the Rip, where the girl picks flowers and the boy puts one of them on his cap. The smaller field includes the Zodiac sign of Gemini, in the form of kissing Baroque angels. The reverse side of the medal carries Josef Mánes himself, while he stands in front of his calendar with a paint palette in his hand.
