Ten-ducat CR 2014 St. Wenceslas' crown proof | Czech Mint
The Mint says about this coin:
Product description Czech ducats coined in the Czech Mint in Jablonec nad Nisou have been popular among collectors since 1997. This traditional coin series must not be missing from any annual Emission Plan of the Czech Mint, manufacturer of Czech commemorative coins and medals. The ducat quartet consists of a one-ducat, a two-ducat, a five-ducat and a ten-ducat coins. The theme usually covers a longer period with just the year changing - the motifs on the ducats from 1997 onwards are shown below. The 2014 quartet presents a brand new theme - Coronation Jewels. The top emission of the whole series is a ten-ducat coin with the weight of one troy ounce and the diameter of 37 mm. The motif of this ducat is the most precious attribute of the Czech coronation jewels - the St. Wenceslas crown. Charles IV had the St Wenceslas crown made in the years 1345 to 1346 for his own coronation as Czech king. Thus the crown is the fourth oldest crown made in Europe. The crown is decorated with 96 precious stones and pearls. The most precious of them is the red rubellite with the dimensions 40 x 37 mm, situated on the front side of the crown. The cross on the top apparently includes an inserted thorn of the crown of Jesus Christ, a donation of French king John II the Good. The author of the ten-ducat coin with the coined year 2014 is the significant Czech Academic sculptor Zbyněk Fojtů, a demanded author of commemorative coins and medals with historic motifs.
