Tribute to Historical Mints series Planá thaler is another successful replica of a historical coin made of one ounce of fine silver. Šlik’s mint in the town of Planá was merely operated for several decades, however its products significantly influenced coining in Bohemia during the Baroque period. Regular coinage in Planá near Mariánské Lázně was launched in 1627. The above mentioned replica represents the oldest type of Šlik’s thaler struck in Planá. The obverse side features a composition based on the Šlik family’s coat-of-arms. Behind the coat-of-arms we can see St. Anne standing, holding by the hand her daughter Virgin Mary as a small child. On her right hand St. Anne is carrying her grandson, little Jesus Christ, who holds in his left hand an imperial orb as a ruler’s symbol. All three figures are haloed. At the lower rim of the coin we find mint master’s Jan Candler mark. The name and title of the coin’s issuer Jindřich Šlik (Heinrich von Schlick), count of Passaun, are around the rim. On the reverse side the author placed the imperial eagle with the coat-of-arms of the Czech lands on his chest label. The legend in circumscription (abbreviated) reads: Ferdinand II, Holy Roman emperor, always the extender of the Empire 1627. Limited edition 1,000 pcs More Less
