Silver 200 CZK coin Foundation of Zlatá koruna monastery proof | Czech Mint
The Mint says about this coin:
750th anniversary of founding the monastery with a long history The commemorative silver coin issued by the Czech National Bank and designed by academic sculptor Zbyněk Fojtů, featuring a motif of the Zlatá koruna (Gold Crown) Monastery. The monastery was founded in 1263 by king Ottokar II of Bohemia, but it had not been until the 14th century when it began to flourish. Afterwards, it was attacked by the Hussites who set it on fire. The monks abandoned the compound for some time and in the 17th century it underwent large-scale renovation. Under the last abbot Bohumír Bylanský in the second half of the 18th century, the monastery flourished once more time. The abbot founded a school for children of the local serfs and had a greenhouse, a pheasantry and a small astronomical observatory built. In 1787, the monastery was purchased by the House of Schwarzenberg. However, the government confiscated the buildings during WWII and in 1948 they were fully transferred into the ownership of the Czechoslovak state. Finally, the monastery was declared a national treasure in 1995 and is currently being administered by the National Heritage Institute (NPÚ). The dominant structure of the Zlatá koruna compound is the gothic monastery church dedicated to the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. The obverse side of the coin features the monastery and its emblem as it appears on the ceiling fresco. The text ČESKÁ REPUBLIKA and the CZK 200 denomination are inscribed around the rim. The reverse side depicts a rosette from the transept of the church with a text in circumscription. A grey colour catalogue card is supplied with each coin comprising a description of the coin and its three-dimensional depiction. Limited edition 15.400 pcs.
