Gold Quarter Ounce 2022 Year of the Tiger, Coin from France - detailed information

The obverse of the coin features a circle above right representing a temple door with Chinese-style ornate handles and latch, on which the inscription RF stands for "République Française" - French Republic. This is surrounded by an ornate ring, below which a ribbon with the inscription CALENDRIER CHINOIS (Chinese Calendar).

The rest of the surface is divided into twelve uneven sectors, each representing one year in the cycle, with the year near the rim (2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024, 2025, 2026, 2027, 2028, 2029), and depictions of the respective zodiac animals.

On two lines above left, the face value 50 EURO

The reverse design depicts a tiger stepping through an ornate ring decorated with traditional Chinese motifs.

On the left, the Chinese character for tiger, 虎, in calligraphy by a famous artist, Xian Ying Hong.

Around below, the inscription 2022 ANNÉE DU TIGRE (2022 Year of the Tiger).

Near the rim below, on the left side of the tiger's foot, the Cornucopia privy mark of the Paris Mint. On its right side, the personal mark of the Chief Engraver of the mint Joaquin Jimenez - a small square whose upper left quarter is occupied by a smaller square - symbolising his initials JJ, plus a stylised rhinoceros head.
