The Mint says about this coin: On behalf of the Isle of Man Government, Pobjoy Mint have released this outstanding proof sterling silver collector's coin to celebrate the memory of Sir Winston Spencer Churchill. This commemorative coin is released sixty years on from his famous Victory Salute at the end of the Second World War in May 1945, fifty years since he resigned as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom in April 1955 and forty years since his death on the 24th January 1965.
This exceptional coin which carries a portrait of Sir Winston Churchill giving his famous ‘V’ for Victory salute, has the wording ‘60th Anniversary – End Of World War II, 1945’ in the surround and the value of 1 Crown at the base.
The IOM coins are struck to the highest quality with the precious metal versions being produced with a stunning Pobjoy Proof finish. The design on each coin is in relief with a glorious mirror-finish background.
Few men in history have achieved so much success in their lifetimes as Sir Winston Churchill who during his career was a soldier, journalist, author, politician, orator, statesman, painter, historian and whom on the brink of defeat at the end of World War II through great leadership, oratory and vision rallied the free world and inspired the British people through their darkest hour towards final victory.
It is fitting that the Government of the Isle of Man should celebrate the memory of arguably history’s greatest parliamentarian with this superb issue as during his lifetime they celebrated his life by presenting him with the honour of “The Freedom Of The City Of Douglas”.
Approved by Buckingham Palace the obverse of each coin carries a fine effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Ian Rank-Broadley FRBS FSNAD.
