Gold Ounce 2021 Melita, Coin from Malta
CoinGold Ounce 2021 Melita

Malta has been using the Euro as its currency since 2008. Apart from the regular circulation coinage, the country has also authorised some mints to issue non circulating and bullion coins under its jurisdiction. The one troy ounce of gold (1 oz) is an internationally popular format, and is issued by Malta denominated as €100 (One Hundred Euro). According to Eurozone convention, the denomination is legal tender in Malta only, and not in the whole Eurozone.

This coin part of the Melita bullion range of coins issued by the Central Bank of Malta in collaboration with Maltese company Lombard Bank. The coins are struck by Swiss company PAMP and depict Melita, the female personification of Malta.

Reverse

The reverse design depicts Melita, the female national personification of Malta, based on the Melita issue postage and revenue stamps of 1922-26, which were designed by Maltese artist Edward Caruana Dingli. Melita is shown as a robed and helmeted figure holding a ship's rudder, representing Malta as being in control of her own destiny; on her chest, a Maltese Cross. The background contains a seascape, with the lighthouse near Fort Saint Elmo and a Gozo boat visible.

Below her feet, a Maltese Cross. Succeeded by a small dolphin symbol, around left the inscription MELITA · 2021. Preceded by a small dolphin symbol, around right the nominal face value ONE HUNDRED EURO.
