This coin was issued in Niue. We have no further information yet but will soon expand this page. The Mint says about this coin: “Alexandria” was the only yacht serving in the Russian Imperial Navy during the reigns of four emperors: Nicholas I, Alexander II, Alexander III and Nicholas II, consecutively. This three-masted paddle-wheel steamer was built in 1851. “Alexandria” inherited her name from its predecessor – a 6-gun yacht of Nicholas I introduced to the Russian Imperial Navy in 1831. The bow of the ship was adorned with a dark-blue heraldic badge depicting a sword with a golden handle surrounded b y a wreath of white roses – the emblem of cottage palace and park Alexandria, the place where Tsarina Alexandra Feodorovna enjoyed her rest and leisure. Since childhood, the princess was called the White Rose. The romantic composition with a floral motif was created by V.A. Zhukovsky during his stay in the imperial estate, and became a repetitive decorative element of the interiors of the “Alexandria” yacht. All household items on the steamer, including silverware, crystals and porcelain, were embellished with the heraldic badge of Alexandria. The imperial yacht “Alexandria” was decommissioned from the Russian Imperial Navy on 31 November 1906. | ||||||
