Product description One of the most important encounters of the Second World War and the biggest tank battle of all time - such was the Battle of Kursk, whose 75th anniversary is commemorated by the third gold coin of the Czech Mint from the four-part miniseries War Year 1943. After the catastrophic defeat at Stalingrad, German troops were pushed hundreds of miles back west. In some segments they managed to keep the line, in others they completely yielded to the unstoppable pressure of the Red Army - that was the case around the industrial city of Kursk. Here, the Soviets stepped forward and broke through the front line spit of land that was 200 kilometres wide and 150 kilometres deep. Adolf Hitler saw the opportunity of his troops in this failure and decided to use the claw bypass, which was a maneuver made famous by Cartago strategist Hannibal more than two thousand years ago. The leader commanded his commanders to strike from two sides and cut off the land under the control of Red Army Forces. If the German plan came out, the Soviets would lose a whole fifth of their power. Fortunately, they were well prepared for the enemy. Thanks to the extensive espionage network they managed to build impressive defense reinforced by one million land mines. So, the Citadel Operation began on July 5, 1943, involving 2 million men, 35,000 cannons, 5,000 aircraft, and above all 8,000 tanks. The open planes of the Russian steppes were the perfect terrain for the battle of the armored vehicles, and both sides deployed the most advanced technology their industrial machinery could produce. On the battlefield, the tanks were in close proximity and often struck. The Germans fired two-thirds of their total armor. However, the Soviet dominance was overwhelming, and although they have suffered incredible losses, their advance to Berlin has been restored. The fate of the Nazi Third Reich was finally sealed. The reverse side of the coin duo Asamat Baltaev, DiS., and academic sculptor Nikolay Baltaev (son and father) presents battles in Kursk Arch. German tanks - the Panzerkampfwagen IV tank and the feared giants Tiger I attack from the left side. On the rigt side there are the iconic Soviet tanks T-34/76 accompanied by the infantry and Il-2 "Sturmovik" tankers killer on the sky. The composition of the reverse side is closed by the inscription in cyrillic КУРСКАЯ БИТВА - the Battle of Kursk. Since the commemorative coins of the Czech Mint are issued in the foreign license of the island of Niue, their obverse side carries its necessary attributes, which are the portrait and the name of Queen Elizabeth II., the nominal value of 5 DOLLARS (NZD) and the year of the issue 2018. The obverse side which is common to the whole miniseries presents great war awards of the USSR and the USA - the Order of Fame (established in 1943) and the Silver Star.
