Issued by the Pacific Island of Niue, this gorgeous silver coin is dedicated to Vincent van Gogh’s Sunflowers of 1888. The picture that Van Gogh was most proud of, it has got two versions: one owned by the National Gallery, the other by the Van Gogh Museum, Amsterdam. Struck of .999 silver with rimless color printing, the coin measures 36x48 mm. The mintage is extremely limited – only 200 pieces worldwide! The obverse displays the portrait of Her Majesty Elizabeth II surrounded by the following inscriptions: the Queen’s name, the face value of the coin, its issuing country and year. The reverse of the coin features Van Gogh’s masterpiece applied with use of rimless color printing. The Sunflowers are among the most famous paintings in the world and their author ranks among the most recognizable artists to have ever existed. The painting amazes with its vibrant colors that express emotions typically associated with the life of sunflowers.
