This incredibly spectacular set of twenty-four coins of pure .999 silver is dedicated to the Divine Comedy written by Dante Alighieri in the fourteenth century and considered the foremost work in Italian literature. Gustave Doré is the author of 135 fantastic grotesque scenes depicting the passion and grandeur of the Divine Comedy. The obverse of each coin displays the portrait of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. The inscriptions denoting the name of the Queen and the issuing country, the face value of the coin and the year of its mintage are also indicated on the obverse. Each edgeless colorprinted coin in this 1 kg set represents Gustav Dore’s illustrations to the Divine Comedy that when displayed together make up one coin unit.
