The Mint says about this coin: The Mint of Poland has decided to depict the greatest and the most heroic and charismatic commanders in the “Great Commanders” series of silver coins. The “Sitting Bull” is the fifth collector coin of the series.
Depicted on the obverse of the silver coin, there is an effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. There are also the inscriptions indicating the Queen’s name, the name of the issuing country as well as the coin’s face value and the year of its mintage.
The reverse design features an embossed image of Sitting Bull. There is also another image of the commander depicted in pad printing technique. Sitting Bull was a medicine man, or holy man, of the Hunkpapa Lakota (Sioux), who were being driven from their land in the Black Hills. He took up arms against the white man, refusing to be transported to the Indian Territory. Under his leadership as a war chief, the Lakota tribes united in their struggle for survival on the northern plains. The lower part of the coin includes the inscription denoting the years of his life.
