Over centuries they were owned mostly by affluent private collectors and patrons of art. In the turmoil of history some of them vanished without trace. However, missing works of art are still an important part of our culture. The Mint of Poland would like to eternalize the artistic heritage of our country that became irreversibly lost for future generations. The painting “Zamoyski at Byczyna” by Jan Matejko disappeared during the Warsaw Uprising.  Our minters, well-known for their exquisite craftsmanship, commemorated it in pure silver!   lost work of art immortalized in pure silver! elaborate design – selective gilding, high-end digital printing, elegant SWAROVSKI ELEMENTS limited mintage – only 450 pcs specially designed presentation case   The painting “Zamoyski Near Byczyna” depicts Maximilian III of Austria being taken prisoner of war by Jan Zamoyski. This historic scene takes place in front of the gates of the town of Byczyna, the night after the deciding battle for the Polish throne. Jan Zamoyski’s victory ensured on 24 January 1588 is considered his biggest military success. The reproduction of the painting created by Piotr Walerski takes us to the moment of imperishable victory commemorated by Jan Matejko more than 130 years ago. The image of the Kozłówka Palace in the background of the reverse sets this priceless masterpiece in the context of pre-war Poland, whereas an empty frame on the obverse symbolically reflects the loss of this important artwork.
