The year of 2012 was quite a tense one. Everybody was concerned about the possible apocalypse. To follow the trend, the Polynesian island of Niue has issued a set of stunning silver coins dedicated to the famous religious plot – the Horsemen of Apocalypse. The set was issued to represent an alternative, positive view on this issue. The designers decided to mark this year not as the end of the world, but as the start of a new age. There were only 777 sets issued, which is an extremely limited mintage. The obverses make this set even more interesting, as they contain not only the traditional portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, but also the scenes from “The Four Horsemen of Apocalypse” woodcuts by Albrecht Durer. Proof quality gives a very special relief look to this side of the coin. The inscriptions accomplishing the composition of the obverse denote the country and the year of issue, the queen's name and the face value, which is $1 for every coin included into the set. The reverse sides of the coins contain colored images of the horsemen – Conquest, Famine, Death and War. However, then fifth coin depicts the Savior, who has the power to control the surrounding servants of the evil. The corner coins also have two inscriptions: one of them reads the rate of silver purity (which is Ag.925, by the way), and the name of the coin in four languages: Russian, Italian, German, Spanish/Latin. Be informed that the set is supplied with an informative booklet and an extremely stylish wooden box that can be used both for saving and exhibiting the coins.
