Helios was the first mythical figure to be regarded by the ancient Greeks as the personification of the Sun, an unbiased witness to all that took place under the sky, the first deity to be depicted as driving a chariot from the east to west across the sky. A Titan and the subject of one of the most famous Homeric hymns, he had a broad impact on mythology even if many of his traits and his basic role would eventually come to be identified with Apollo. His legacy is celebrated in the Divine Faces of the Sun series by the 2022 3 oz Antique Niue Silver Helios Coin.

Although the modern world tends to think of Apollo as the Greek deity tasked with conveying the sun across the sky, it was Helios who first played this role, coursing across the heavens in a chariot drawn by four divine chargers. Helios was all-seeing, and one of the few Titans who coexisted happily with the Gods of Mt. Olympus.
