The Mint says about this coin:
The royal family of Qatar paid the trifling sum of 158.4 million pounds (or more than 250 million dollars ) for a painting by Paul Cézanne entitled “The Card Players”. This was an extraordinary amount which outclassed the current record-holder, Jackson Pollock’s ”Number 5” (1948), sold in 2006 for 140 million dollars. Thanks to the Mint of Poland, today one of the works of this amazing artist can be in your collection! priceless masterpieces of world art immortalised in pure silver a fantastic present for art lovers! fine silver! photographic quality digital printing limited mintage – only 600 pieces! elegant frame-shaped case! In the 1890s, Paul Cézanne painted a series of scenes depicting men playing cards. One of these has been immortalised on a beautiful coin issued by the Mint of Poland. The painting has a quiet, still mood; the card players do not reveal their emotions, the scene exudes an atmosphere of intense concentration. Although the work of Paul Cézanne is rooted in Impressionism, the artist is also considered to be a forerunner of Cubism. His style is instantly recognisable; he combines forms which have been simplified to geometrical shapes with subtle strokes of the brush. Pablo Picasso and Henri Matisse were among his great admirers: Cézanne’s legacy had a great influence on their work.
