The Mint says about this coin:

Starting a brand new series called “Great Commanders” this new ultrahigh relief coin represents Spartacus, an ancient leader of slaves uprising in Ancient Rome. Spartacus created a strong army consisting of slaves and gladiators and inflicted a number of serious attacks on the Romans. The coin is housed in a wooden box with a specially designed outer shipper sleeve. The reverse side includes a 3 mm high relief image of the Spartacus mounting on the horse with the sword in his hand approaching Roman legionnaires and with his army of gladiators and slaves on the background. The rose gilding imitates the blood on the swords, spears and victim’s neck. On the reverse one can see a map of Italy with a track of battles, with Queen Elizabeth II effigy to the left and inscriptions below: the country and year of issue, face value and metal composition.
