His sprawling illustration “Wild Scenery,” inspired by the famous Doors of Duomo di Milano, captured the imaginations of the creative team at the Mint, who recognize the talented youth as the primary author of their latest numismatic masterpiece. Transferring the heart of his remarkable illustration into ultra high-relief engraving in pure silver, they bring us the 2022 2 oz Antique Niue Silver Wild Scenery Coin, now available from JM Bullion.

Explaining the inspiration for the original “Wild Scenery” illustration, artist Louis Gibiard says: “I stumbled across a monument online, more specifically – the doors of Duomo di Milano . . . [and] I thought it looked so good that I had to make something out of it.” He adds: “I don’t like copying pictures, so I went ahead and changed each panel to make something unique.” The result is a striking multi-panel illustration that the team at the Lithuanian Mint has partially transferred into an ultra high-relief medallic artwork format.
The 2022 Antique Niue Silver Wild Scenery Coin celebrates the majesty of nature in a pure silver collectible with an antique finish that makes its engravings stand out even more dramatically. It ships in a mint capsule, housed in an elegant presentation case with a Certificate of Authenticity, and comes fully insured against loss or damage.
The coin’s obverse side features an effigy of the late Queen Elizabeth II, confirming it as legal tender of Niue. This is accompanied by the inscriptions “ELIZABETH II,” “NIUE,” “FIVE DOLLARS,” and “2022.”
Its reverse side is a spectacular, miniaturized re-creation of the centerpiece of Gibiard’s “Wild Scenery” drawing, with a winged stag and a winged unicorn flanking a globe and surrounded by intricate decorative details.
