The Mint says about this coin:
We would like to present a subsequent gold coin from the series “Treasures of King Stanisław August” issued by the National Bank of Poland to memorialize the collection of commemorative medals struck during the reign of Stanisław August Poniatowski. The 8 th coin from the series is devoted to Ladislas of Varna, the King of Poland and Hungary. Commemorative and historic value 18th-century medals commemorated in fine gold Limited mintage – only 600 pcs! Perfect gift idea Elegant wooden presentation case Ladislas (1424-1444) was the first-born son of Jogaila and his fourth wife, Lithuanian princess Sophia of Halshany. The king was crowned at the age of 10 and was immediately surrounded by a group of influential advisors. The regency was held by a royal council headed by ambitious and powerful Cardinal Zygmunt Oleśnicki. This situation continued until 1440, when Władysław was offered the crown of Hungary. Despite the signed truce, Ladislas undertook an expedition to Adrianople, and was killed in the Battle of Varna. The king’s body was never found, the fact which underlay the legends about him surviving the battle and was the reason for a three year delay in acclaiming a new King of Poland. In 1906 a symbolic tombstone of Ladislas of Varna was erected in the Wawel Cathedral, the main burial site for Polish monarchs since the 14th century.
