The Mint says about this coin:
Subsequent commemorative coin from the series Discover Poland depicts the Royal Castle in Warsaw. The coin with the face value of 5 zloty was issued by the National Bank of Poland. Commemorative and historical value Attractive design Limited mintage Located in the Castle Square, the Royal Castle in Warsaw exemplifies a Baroque-Classicism style. Initially functioning as a seat of the Masovian Dukes, it became a royal residence. The Castle was repeatedly devastated and plundered by invaders. After the Partitions of Poland and the collapse of the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth, the Royal Castle became a residence of the occupying forces. In 1918, when Poland regained sovereignty, for a short time the Royal Castle functioned as a seat of Polish administration. World War II wrought a havoc for the Castle: in the very beginning of the military conflict it was partially destroyed, then, after the Warsaw Uprising, it was bombarded and led to utter ruin. The reconstruction of the Castle became a point of honor for post-war Polish society. In the years 1971-1984 this historic monument was rebuilt with the funds provided by the community. In this respect, the refurbished Castle became a symbol of success in the collective imagination of Poles. For the time being the complex serves as a museum. It continues to evoke patriotic feelings and reminds us about the great commitment Polish society has fulfilled to resurrect it.
