The Mint says about this coin:
The series of commemorative coins “Discover Poland”, issued by the National Bank of Poland, was extended by a third coin. This time the reverse of a 5-zloty token features the Poznań Town Hall – one of the most recognizable renaissance buildings in Poland. Commemorative and historical value Attractive design Limited mintage Legal tender on the territory of the Republic of Poland The Poznań Town Hall was erected at the turn of the 13 th century, following the founding of the medieval town of Poznań in 1253. Until 1939 the building served as the seat of local government. After a great fire in mid-16 th century, the Town Hall became a subject to reconstruction. Thanks to the efforts of Giovanni Battista di Quadro, an Italian architect responsible for the renewal of the hall, a modest Gothic-style building from the past changed into a magnificent, richly decorated seat of the municipal authorities that we know today. Nowadays the interiors of the Town Hall house a branch of the National Museum in Poznań . Every day at noon two mechanical goats at its central tower butt their heads. The daily appearance of the goats is one of Poznań’s best-known tourist attractions. Material: cupronickel/aluminum bronze Date of issue: November 2015 |
