The astronomer quickly noticed the phenomenon of currency devaluation and price increase. This process had a negative impact on the budget of the chapter, as the purchasing power of funds collected from taxes was gradually declining.   In his treatise “ Monetae cudendae ratio” Nicolaus Copernicus described an important phenomenon. For example, if there are two forms of commodity money in circulation, and both of them are accepted by law as having similar face value, the more valuable commodity with higher precious metal content is collected by the society and soon disappears from circulation. In other words, bad money drives out good money. Today, this phenomenon is known as Copernicus-Gresham’s law .
