It is devoted to Alfred Wierusz-Kowalski – one of the most prominent Polish painters of the realism art movement. Alfred Wierusz-Kowalski (born October 11 th , 1849 in Suwałki, died February 16 th , 1915 in Munich) was a Polish painter active in Munich, where he set up his private studio and became a leading painter of the Polish realism art movement. Wierusz-Kowalski looked for inspiration in the rural environment of his motherland. Generic scenes in the countryside or in small towns, carts pulled by horses, hunting expeditions – these were the most common motifs of his works. A solitary wolf depicted against a melancholic winter landscape is one of the most distinguishable themes of his artistic legacy. Alfred Wierusz-Kowalski’s paintings were highly appreciated in the international artistic circles. His works, displayed in numerous exhibitions and art galleries, soon won him immense and long-lasting popularity. Today his paintings are exhibited in the most renowned art galleries in the world.
