The Mint says about this coin:
“Grosz of Casimir the Great” is the 7 th silver commemorative coin from the series “The History of Polish Coin” issued by the National Bank of Poland. Commemorative and historical value Minted in .925 sterling silver Fusion of traditional and contemporary coinage Limited mintage Attractive design Casimir the Great (1333–1370) introduced substantial changes to the Polish monetary system. In addition to ubiquitous denarii being in circulation in his age, Casimir issued three new large silver coins: the grosz, the kwartnik (half-grosz) and the ćwierćgrosz (quarter-grosz or the small kwartnik). Today, the collectors express particular interest in the largest and most impressive of the above mentioned coins – “grossi cracovienses” – a medieval silver coin issued around 1360. The coin weighted 3.27 g and was the equivalent of 16 small denarii. At this point it is worth mentioning that the medieval grosz (as opposed to the present-day Polish circulation coins) was a high-denomination coin. The Latin term “grossus” referred initially to denarius – a thick circulation coin with high purchasing value.
