The tenth coin from the series “The History of Polish Coin” issued by Narodowy Bank Polski is devoted to two coins struck during the rule of King Stephen Bathory – the shilling and the thaler from 1580. Before the reign of Stephen Bathory (1576–1586), these two types of coins were rarely found in Polish lands. commemorative and historical value minted in .925 sterling silver fusion of traditional and contemporary coinage limited mintage attractive design Development of the minting system initiated by Stephen Bathory merits a place in the history books due to monetary union of all Polish and Lithuanian lands. The coinage struck under the rule of Stephen Bathory preserved its value. New designs and types of dies were used until the end of the XVIII century. Specific types of images introduced during this time were in use during the consecutive reigns of Polish monarchs. Also, new and efficient mints were opened. Stephen Bathory reformed the minting system by giving the treasurers new privileges. Due to this fact, new elements appear on Polish coinage: not only coats of arms of the state, but also – heraldic badges of the treasurers and engravers.
