The eagle is surrounded by three stars alluding to the three oldest departments of the university: Agriculture, Forestry and Horticulture.   The history of the oldest university of life sciences in Poland has been turbulent. Several times the institution changed its seat and the official name.  At the moment of its establishment the university gathered slightly more than 100 students, whereas currently 25,000 students are being educated in its 13 departments. A lot has changed both for Poland and the university itself since its establishment. Years of war, socialism and political transformation exerted a powerful impact on Polish social and economic life. Dynamic development of the high-end technologies confronts the academic community with new challenges such as increased flexibility and openness to lifelong learning.
