Saint Vincent and the Grenadines is a sovereign island country in the Caribbean which uses the Eastern Caribbean Dollar (EC$) as its currency; it is the common currency of six independent states and two British Overseas Territories. The EC$ has both common and national issues. All common circulating coins are issued under the authority of the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank and have no issuing country specified on them. Separately, each member country can also strike coins bearing its national symbols; these coins are legal tender in all members states, and are usually commemorative or bullion not intended for general circulation. Most of the member states share the same monarch with the United Kingdom, so that the effigy of the monarch is displayed on the coins and banknotes of the currency.
Saint Vincent and the Grenadines has authorised some foreign mints to strike coins under its issuing authority for collector's purposes. Some of these are in popular bullion formats, such as one troy ounce (1 oz) of gold.
This coin is part of the seventh edition of the Eastern Caribbean 8 (EC8) series of premium bullion coins by the Scottsdale Mint, which has a new annual design for each country of the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS).
The 2024 design for Saint Vincent and the Grenadines depicts a young couple on paddleboards.
The mint says about the coin: As the sun stretches across the endless Caribbean sky, two paddleboards glide silently into the turquoise waters - each carrying a soul, together sharing a journey. This serene moment, set against the breathtaking backdrop of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, captures the quiet wonder that defines life among these island jewels.
From the verdant hills of Saint Vincent to the scattered cays of the Grenadines, nature invites a slower rhythm - one where the heart can beat in time with the waves. Here, paddleboarding becomes more than recreation; it’s communion - with the sea, with each other, and with the peaceful beauty that surrounds.
The couple, silhouetted against the shimmering horizon, reflects the essence of the islands themselves: connected, grounded in nature, and adrift in a paradise that asks nothing but presence. Beneath them, coral gardens stretch out in brilliant hues, and the sea hums with the soft murmur of ocean life. This is a scene not of grandeur, but of grace - a quiet celebration of love, freedom, and the power of stillness. It honors a nation where land and sea live in harmony, and where every shoreline offers a new beginning. |
