150th anniversary of establishment of the Slovak cultural institution Coin marking the 150th anniversary of establishment of Matica slovenská, the Slovak national cultural foundation residing in Martin. Its main task is to support Slovak culture, public education and science, encourage national literature and art, organize educational activities and foster progress of education. The design of the coin was created by medallist Karol Ličko, winner of a country-wide anonymous competition. The obverse side features the denomination of the coin 10 euro, the old building of Matica slovenská – spiritual, educational and scientific centre of Slovaks. On the right side we can see a fragment of its first statutes. Three portraits of Matica slovenská founding members and principal representatives –Štefan Moyses, Karol Kuzmány and Ján Francisci are depicted on the reverse side, complemented with the year of foundation 1863.
