Coin | Gold Eighth-Ounce 2023 Never Forget |
---|
|
Apart from its regular circulating coinage, Solomon Islands has authorised a number of mints to issue collector coins in precious metals, which are legal tender in the country but are not intended for general circulation. Many of them are in sizes based on the troy ounce - such as one eighth-ounce of gold (abbreviated as 1/8 oz Au, where "Au" comes from the Latin word for gold, Aurum). These are usually dedicated to historical or general popular culture themes not related to the country itself.
The 9/11 Never Forget coin is a 1/8 oz gold coin designed by renowned US Mint master coin designer Joel Iskowitz. He was commissioned by the Royal Dutch Mint to commemorate the attack on the World Trade Center and honour the fallen American heroes. |
