Apart from its regular circulating coinage, Solomon Islands has authorised a number of mints to issue collector coins in precious metals, which are legal tender in the country but are not intended for general circulation. Many of them are in standard bullion sizes - including five ounces of silver (abbreviated as 5 oz Ag, where "Ag" comes from the Latin word for silver, Argentum). These are usually dedicated to historical or general popular culture themes not related to the country itself. This coin is dedicated to the 2023 Lunar Year of the Rabbit (22 January 2023 - 9 February 2024); the rabbit is the fourth animal in the Chinese zodiac calendar. Those born under the sign of the Rabbit in the years 2023, 2011, 1999, 1987, 1975, 1963 and in every 12th year before are considered to be talented and ambitious. The Rabbit is popular everywhere and a good companion, distinguished especially by its patience and good nature. Rabbits are known for their sense of art and often make the right decisions based on their instincts. Despite their popularity, they shy away from change and are often insecure and rather pessimistic. | ||||||
