White Rhino - 1/10 Oz | EMK.com The Mint says about this coin: Description Natura Series - White Rhino 1/10 Oz Gold - Proof 99.99% pure Gold Limited Mintage only 3,000 pieces With Certificate of Authenticity Delivery in original Box The South African Mint dedicated this issue of the Natura series to the White Rhino . Released in 1994, the Natura series pays tribute to animals native to Africa. The motive of the coin struck from a 1/10 ounce of 99.99% pure gold features a depiction of two rhinos within the shadowy outline of another rhino. The respective denomination, the inscription "NATURA" and the weight and fineness of the coin are also part of the design. The reverse shows another depiction of a rhinoceros as well as the year of issue "2009" and the inscriptions "South Africa" and "Ceratotherium simum". The White rhinoceros (Ceratotherium simum) is the third largest land mammal on Earth and the largest species of rhinoceros alive today. It reaches a head-torso length of 3.4 to 4.2 meters, a shoulder height of 1.5 to 1.8 meters, and a weight of 1350 to 3500 kilograms. Male rhinos are significantly larger and bulkier than female rhinos. White rhinos are characterized by their large and wide mouths. A distinction is made between the Northern White Rhinoceros and the Southern White Rhinoceros - both have been heavily affected by hunting and poaching in Africa in the past - in part because their horns are mistakenly believed to have healing properties. The Southern White Rhinoceros population has recovered with the help of intensive conservation measures and now numbers around 20,000 individuals. However, the Northern White Rhino remains critically endangered. With only two females left in the wild in Kenya, the fate of the rhino species seems sealed. Nevertheless, international research teams are trying to save the continued existence of the Northern White rhino, relying on modern reproductive technology. Limited to 3,000 pieces worldwide, the Natura Coin - White Rhino is delivered in the original box including a certificate of authenticity. | ||||||
